Often, educators are taught to focus on procedures and math fluency; however, CCSSO’s new report, A Nation of Problem-Solvers: How State Leaders Can Help Every Student Achieve in Math, calls for a clear pathway to successful mathematics instruction for all learners. These recommendations are grounded in the work of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and in current successful math models as those described in Math Minds by Shalinee Sharma. As many school leaders are working to implement new math standards, the department will share key strategies for elementary school leaders should consider.
